I wouldnt say his oblivious his made it clear he likes Ziyun but Ning'er is still after him which led to her having that talk with Ziyun after he saved the city to the point his spirit sea was empty where she openly said she is willing to walk in his shadow even if she doesnt end up with him. When Nie Li saved Ning'er from the giant frog with tenticles the voice over for his thoughts mentions that he loves her too but will make it up to her in the next life.

This leaves me with the question that within the world designed by the writer does it allow a person to be married to more than one person because throughout Chinese history the emperors had not only wives but also concubines.

In the novel, by this point in the story you have already seen several of his "future memories"...in that other future he was an absolutely talentless nobody all through the academy. Years later, finally there is an invasion and the city is destroyed by a monster beast horde. Nie Li flees the city with some survivors and (purple girl) Zi Yun. The hundreds who fled are pursued and eventually its just the two of them struggling in the desert. Over time, they eventually become lovers, but Nie Li is impossibly weak. Zi Yun finally sacrifices her own life to save him. He lives for many hundreds of years after that and rises to the absolute top of the universe, but could never love another woman. Now that he has returned to the past by accident and has a chance to change it...Nie Li will NEVER give up on her. Even though he realizes that Ning'er also loves him he will close his heart to her. Its a major struggle because Ning'er has such a pure heart will will do so much for him in the future.

I'm not sure if the novel covered this or not but there is a question I have to ask. Even though he has come back to the past, the changes he is making to the timeline is obviously causing other things to happen that never did before but does he ever go back to the past again?

No. The time-travel is one way. All that happened in the other timeline can be changed. So he knows about the calamity that will befall Glory City in the future, but in the other time-line he was too small and insignficant (at the time) to know who was responsible. He only knows about the beast tide, the city gets destroyed and he and ZiYun are refugees. This timeline he has learned that there are some dark elements working in the shadows. He is also doing everything he can to strengthen the defenses of the city so that all the people don't die... including his family.

thanks for responding. I was just curious to see if he could go back again to make Ning'er happy because she is suffering at the moment and even though I'm not a fan of Nie Lie's arrogant behaviour, I felt she deserved some happiness too.

In a way, only Ning'er is worthy of Nie Li in this life. Once you find out how much she does for him it sort of can't be compared to Zi Yun. However, Zi Yun did even more for Nie Li in his past life...er...in the future. They fell in love and she died to save his life. Not a spoiler, this has already happened as Nie Lie is actually from many hundreds of years in the future and got accidentally sent back to the past to his teenage years.

Nah, even Xiao Ning'er appeared in Nie Li's past life. He had known someone named Xiao Ning in the Draconic Ruins Realm, but never knew that the two of them were the same person until much later. She also sacrificed her life for Nie Li. Both are equal in this aspect. Moreover, later on, both will become Nie Li's lover so there's no use in fusing this over anyway.
